Singer Eve Thomas opens up about the challenges she faces pursuing music as a career
Eve Thomas shares how her day starts: coffee and breakfast is at the top of her list.

What's a typical day for a full-time singer in Dubai? Eve Thomas shares how her day starts: coffee and breakfast, a little bit of yoga, going over songs and adding new ones to a set list, and the gym. "I am not a morning person but I am trying to be," she shares. Regularly, she and her husband head out for the evening, whether it’s for a gig, to support a friend at their gigs or even a date night.

Eve started noticing her knack for music before she can even speak. "I’ve been singing since I could speak," she shares. Her love for music began in church singing gospel. As she grew older she drew inspiration from artists such as Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. "I’ve molded my voice and style around these legends as an ode to the ones who paved the way, today."

Eve is no stranger to challenges in pursuing her passion for music. "I’ve faced a few challenges pursuing music as a full-time career; it starts with my ethnicity, coming from an Indian family it’s always difficult trying to convince people that this is a viable career and that talent could take me places," she recalls. Now that she's getting her foot in, the narrative has not changed, or at least to a minimum. "I also face a lot of criticism for being a brown girl in the [local] music scene. I also face a lot of challenges in trying to stand out," says the singer. The music community in the UAE is still in its early stages and therefore, she believes, gossip is inevitable. "I’m overcoming this though, and continue to do that by just pushing forward and working hard." Eventually, in the long run, hard work and talent would overpower any stereotype or dish there is about her (or anyone else).

As an artist, Eve's biggest dream is to continue what she does and make a full-time living off it. "I feel at home in front of a microphone singing my heart out, and I want people to feel at home when they listen to me," she confidently concludes.

Eve Thomas currently works on original songs.
