Egyptian pianist and singer-songwriter Asmaa Naga took on the advice of her producers to try a different creative direction on her latest single 'Is Your Hear Okay.'
The message however, stays true to what her music is all about. "Most of my songs in the past relied entirely on piano, but this has electronic contemporary sounds that alongside classical instruments (like strings) to bring in a mix of old orchestral and modern contemporary," said Asmaa in an exclusive interview with musivv.
The song was inspired by a conversation Asmaa had with friends and cousins one summer. It is about the hurt that people carry in their hearts while walking around pretending that everything is all right. "The loneliness we feel when we are sad, and the scars we hide just because we think that no one would understand," she added.

"Many of us feel alone and homesick for something that sometimes we can't really pinpoint or understand, and that we all go through times that leave scars in our hearts, but that we need to remember that we are not alone in this pain and that it's safe to share to those who love us."
These lines from the song are a powerful take away according to Asmaa:
I guess I'm just trying to say
That I can see the scars you try to hide away,
They make you more beautiful today

As for the process, the Oxford graduate said the lyrics came first. The chord progression and tune on the piano came after shortly. She recorded a rough demo at home and sent it to Wall Of Sound — a record house based in the US. "They were excited to work on it and release the song." Two producers worked with her on the song, Tamer Khalil and Abdul Malik each added their touch that took the song to another level.
'Is Your Heart Okay' is now available on all streaming platforms.
