The musical journey of a young boy can draw inspiration from other third-culture kids

Mazyn goes candid in sharing a fun fact that Google doesn't know about him until now.

Two of his favorites. Summer and molokheya. "I feel like I flourish most in the summer with my favorite food molokheya (if you know you know)," he shares with Musivv.

Young kids who are emotionally aware tend to have better communication and interpersonal skills, stronger relationships, and higher levels of resilience, empathy, and self-esteem. Mazyn felt he was more emotionally aware than most kids growing up. "That emotion usually translated to passion which I always carried into anything I get myself involved with whether it was being the school's football team captain or acting in school plays or even in my relationships.

Mazyn recalls an impactful incident that changed the way he thinks about life and subsequently changed the course of his life making him the person he is now. Moving to another country can have a significant impact on kids' lives, as they may have to adjust to a new culture, language, and environment, which can lead to feelings of confusion, homesickness, and loneliness, but can also provide opportunities for personal growth and development. "I believe choosing to study abroad in Canada and traveling on my own gave me a new perspective on life and helped me understand and see different cultures from all around the world," he remembers.

It definitely feels unreal at times as I always saw the rest of the world as a foreign land.

Despite growing up away from Egypt with his parents, they always ensured that he was connected to his roots by taking him to visit family in Egypt every summer. "I used to always feel homesick but as I grew older I feel like Egypt is always going to be a part of me and it doesn't have to be distant from me as long as I keep it in my heart and reflect that in my art," he adds.

Like every other Arab kid growing up, Mazyn wanted to be a football player and found a passion for the sport as early as he can remember. "Since music, I'm not as involved as I used to be but I still make sure to play in leagues around the city as much as I can and watch my favorite teams play or if any big tournaments are happening.

The young singer-songwriter's creative process varies. He starts his songwriting process by either mumbling words and melodies on a beat and then matching words to it, or by taking his time to carefully journal his thoughts and think about what he wants to talk about next. Once he's in the studio, he lets the vibe of the music dictate the direction and draws inspiration from previous writings or experiences from his life. "I usually let the vibe of the music dictate the direction once I'm in the studio and grab inspiration from things I wrote before or experiences from my life," he shares.

So far Mazyn's musical journey shows that being open to new perspectives and experiences can lead to a greater appreciation of cultural diversity, which he believes is a beautiful thing.
