Saqer Khalid, known by his stage name SQ, has emerged as a prominent figure in the UAE music scene as a rapper, songwriter, and mix engineer.

With a deep passion for music and a commitment to authenticity, Saqer has been making a name in the industry. In addition to his musical pursuits, he also runs a professional recording studio in Dubai. Recently, he was appointed as a board member of the Emirati Musicians' Association (EMA), an esteemed position that allows him to contribute to the growth and representation of the UAE music community.

Saqer's journey in music began at a young age, with his earliest memories involving dancing to Michael Jackson cassette tapes and performing at school gigs. However, it was in 2003, during a summer vacation in London, that his studio recording journey took off. Bookings for studio sessions sparked his love for the art of recording sound, setting him on a path of honing his skills and developing a unique sound that blends oriental, jazz, and other art forms with hip hop.

As a board member of the EMA, Saqer considers it a tremendous honor and a dream come true. The association, established in 2023, serves as a platform for Emirati musicians to come together and represent the vibrant music community in the UAE. Saqer is determined to lift up not only the hip hop culture but the entire music community in the UAE, striving to showcase the authenticity and talent of Emirati artists.

Saqer's plans for uplifting Emirati hip hop culture are grounded in building a strong foundation for future generations. While acknowledging the long journey ahead, his vision is to represent his genre in the most genuine and authentic manner possible. Through his contributions to the EMA and his own musical endeavors, he aims to pave the way for aspiring artists to pursue their dreams and make an impact in the industry.

My aspirations is to lift up all the music community in the UAE, and in hopes to represent my genre in the most authentic fashion possible.

Reflecting on his early musical creations, Saqer fondly recalls his first song that filled him with pride, titled "Closure." Recorded in his home studio in 2010, the track explores the challenges and search for closure experienced by aspiring rap artists. It serves as a testament to Saqer's growth and determination throughout his musical journey.

As an artist, Saqer's core message is rooted in originality and authenticity. His debut album, "Asly," showcases his rapping skills in Arabic and is a testament to his commitment to producing original studio productions with live instruments and musicality. Through his music, Saqer aims to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and stay true to themselves.

While Saqer admits to being a perfectionist, he acknowledges his evolving perspective on imperfections. As he matures as a musician and as an individual, he is learning to appreciate imperfections and accept things as they are, allowing room for growth and artistic exploration.

I’m learning to appreciate the imperfections more and to just accept things the way they are sometimes
